Drawing with light

Drawing is a physical activity.  When we put our arms and hips into making an image, that image takes on an expressiveness connected to your physical emotions.  The artist can learn to control this with practice; this week we practiced.

Myself, musician and head of department Peggy Benkeser, and dance instructor Juana Farfan got together with the students to use our bodies in drawing.  Here’s the set-up, we stationed ourselves in the black box, lit up a whole heap of glow sticks and then took long exposure photographs to document our movements.  The students tried out activities like moving to the music, designing scenes, and even a go at writing.  The photos below are the artifact of our experience.
